Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Lima

Arrive in Peru’s sprawling capital city and receive a welcome at Lima airport, a Peru Machu Picchu tours representative will meet you there and accompany you to your hotel by private vehicle, providing a guided introduction to the city along the way.

Lima is home to the Government Palace and world-renowned & award-winning restaurants.

Day 2: Lima City Tour (UNESCO World Heritage)

Discover the fascinating history of Lima on a guided city tour. Begin your adventure with sightseeing around the historic city center (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), exploring colonial churches, palaces, and charming promenades. The day concludes with a visit to the Larco Herrera Museum, renowned as one of South America’s finest museums.

Enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure.

* Visit the vibrant suburb of Miraflores or the bohemian district of Barranco, and sample some local culinary delights or a glass of Peru’s national drink ‘Pisco sour’ at one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. Suggested restaurants!

Day 3: Flight to Cusco & Transfer to the Sacred Valley

Transfer to Lima airport for your flight to Cusco city (an-hour approx).

Upon your arrival at Cusco Airport, you will be welcomed by our staff and transferred to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Along the way, stop at a llama farm to admire South American camelids, including llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and huanacos. Visit the picturesque town of Pisaq, exploring its Inca archaeological site, marveling at the fine masonry, residential quarters, Peru’s largest Inca cemetery, and the impressive agricultural terraces. Wander through the vibrant artisan market, a wonderful opportunity to interact with locals dressed in their traditional colorful attire, and sample some of the area’s best empanadas. Capture stunning photos of the majestic Andes mountains and their snow-capped peaks along the route.

*  A few thousand feet lower in elevation 2850 m / 9405 ft than Cusco city makes it an ideal place to enjoy your first days here as you adjust with the high altitude.

Day 4: Exploring the Salt mines of Maras & trek to Ollantaytambo 'Inca Fortress'

Start the day with a visit to Maras, the famous “Salt Mines,” an ancient pre-Inca site of evaporation ponds still used to harvest pink salt. Next, explore Moray, the “Inca agricultural greenhouse,” where the Incas conducted experiments to study how crops adapted to different ecosystems. Continue your journey to Pachar village, the starting point of a scenic two-hour hike through nature to Ollantaytambo, a charming town built around an impressive Inca fortress. Afterward, board the tourist train to Machu Picchu, enjoying a light snack during the 1.5-hour journey. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will be transferred to your selected hotel.

Day 5: Visiting Machu Picchu "The Lost City of The Incas" & Ride back to Cusco

Early in the morning, you will be transferred by shuttle bus to the Machu Picchu archaeological site (approximately 25 minutes). Once there, enjoy a guided tour of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, lasting about 2.5 hours. Explore this enigmatic Inca complex with your guide, who will provide fascinating insights into the key areas of interest — the perfect opportunity to capture those iconic photos!

Afternoon, board the train back to either Ollantaytambo or Poroy town and continue by bus to your hotel.

* Climbing Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain known locally as “Montaña” is a terrific add-on experience since they both offer outstanding views of the Inca citadel, but the entrance fees are limited (400 people a day) and at scheduled times. Day 6: Cusco City Tour (UNESCO World Heritage City)

Begin your morning exploring Cusco, the legendary capital of the Inca Empire and a UNESCO World Heritage City. Wander through ancient Inca temples and awe-inspiring complexes on the city’s outskirts, such as the megalithic fortress of Saqsayhuamán and the ceremonial site of Q’enqo. Stroll through the magnificent Cathedral, one of South America’s finest, and immerse yourself in local life at San Pedro Market, where colorful produce and traditional delicacies abound. Along charming cobblestone streets, discover historic plazas, cozy coffee shops, artisan workshops, and the captivating spirit that makes Cusco truly unforgettable.

* What to do and see in your spare time: Admire the city’s remarkable blend of Inca and Colonial architecture, visit the Inca Museum, home to an impressive collection of ancient artifacts and colonial art. Visit a silver workshop to learn about the techniques and intricate designs behind Peru’s high-quality jewelry, or if you’re feeling adventurous—take part in a Peruvian cooking class to discover how the country’s most iconic dishes are prepared. Day 7: Flight to Lima - Iquitos & Transfer to The Treehouse Lodge.

Transfer to Cusco airport for your flight back to Lima city (1 hour approx) and flight to Iquitos (2 hours approx).

Upon arrival at Iquitos Airport, a Peru Machu Picchu Tours representative will welcome you and accompany you on a 1.5-hour drive to Nauta Port. From there, board a boat and journey along the Amazon River to The Treehouse Lodge.

Upon your arrival, you will receive a curated list of excursions tailored to your interests. Options include dolphin watching, day and night jungle walks, kayaking, riding a traditional dugout canoe, visiting a local Amazon village, fishing for piranhas, spotting monkeys and sloths, birdwatching, and much more.

Day 9: Boat ride back to Nauta Port & Flight back to Lima

After your jungle adventures, hop back into the canoe for the return trip to Nauta Port, and continue by car onward to Iquitos city.

Transfer to Iquitos airport for your flight back to Lima (2 hours approx) and continue your journey back home or onward to your next destination.
